                                                 Plus 15% in lieu of benefits

Auxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation, holiday, sick leave beyond the statutory requirement, and other benefits, per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.

 

POSITION FUNCTION

Provide customer service, cashier, receptionist and clerical functions for City of Victoria operated facilities.

 

KEY DUTIES

Sell various items including, but not limited to admissions, passes, tickets, merchandise and garbage tags.  Operate POS/Registration system and credit/debit card machine; balance and verify daily cash and credit card reports; prepare cash sheets and bank deposits; maintain coin float and order from bank as required; issue and maintain petty cash.  Register customers for recreation programs, room bookings and locker rentals; print reports as required; inform registrants of information such as course schedule changes, cancellations and payment status; complete forms for refunds; record credits and cancellations.

Respond to enquiries from the public by providing general information on facility operations, recreational programs, course schedules and facilities; take messages and forward calls; forward feedback on recreational programs to program coordinators; provide office support to co-ordinators and management; record information regarding lost or stolen items and complaints.  Process subsidy program applications by reviewing applications, ensuring applicants meet program criteria and advising the applicants of approval/rejection; respond to and process community centre subsidy allocations.

 

Prepare a variety of routine letters, reports, memos, forms and records, posters and small marketing materials as assigned; maintain various filing systems and records; perform office functions such as photocopying, collating, stapling and faxing; sort and distribute mail; order and maintain inventory of stationary supplies and merchandise items; prepare cheque requisitions; prepare monthly billings such as payment plan and locker rentals.

 

Perform related duties where qualified.

 

INDEPENDENCE

  • Work is performed following established routines and is reviewed by supervisor.
  • Issues involving deviations from established procedures are referred to supervisor.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

  • Prolonged standing while in work area. (often)
  • Stand with arms unsupported while keyboarding. (occasional)
  • Touch keying on calculator. (rare)

Mental Effort:

  • Deal with complaints and negative comments. (occasional)

Visual/Auditory Effort:

  • Focus on a variety of sources data and computer for short periods. (occasional)

Work Environment:

  • Recreation facility.
  • Required to work irregular hours. (premium item)

 

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Understand and carry out job related instructions.
  • Type 40 wpm; working level operation of current City of Victoria word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Operate a POS/computerized registration system and credit/debit card terminal.
  • Use standard office equipment.
  • Maintain records and balance cash accurately.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Deal with the public in a friendly, helpful and tactful manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

  • High school graduation.
  • Required to obtain vulnerable sector criminal record clearance.

Experience:

  • 1 year of related experience.
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
