Join the City of Victoria’s Cybersecurity team and work closely with staff across the IT Department to help protect City systems and information. The Cybersecurity team supports City staff by providing training, sharing security best practices, and helping the organization respond to cyber risks. The team also researches new security tools and stays up to date on emerging threats by connecting with industry experts and professional networks.
The Cybersecurity Associate reports to the Manager, Cybersecurity, and supports the team with practical, hands‑on work. In this role, you will learn how the City uses cybersecurity tools and processes while contributing to real projects that improve the City’s security posture. Training, guidance, and support will be provided to help you build your skills and confidence.

This role is well suited to someone with an interest or background in IT or cybersecurity who wants to learn by doing. You do not need to know every City system or tool on day one — you will receive training and mentorship to help you succeed.

Auxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation, holiday, sick leave beyond the statutory requirement, and other benefits, per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.
WORK FROM HOME
The successful candidate for this posting may be eligible for participation in a hybrid, work from home arrangement in alignment with the City’s Work from Home Policy. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.
POSITION FUNCTION
As an IMPACT Initiative Associate hired under the City of Victoria’s Inclusive Municipal Program for Advancing Careers and Training, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Associate position, you will assist with projects within a specific City department, contribute to the overall goals of the work unit, have job shadowing opportunities, and participate in educational experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must reside in Greater Victoria or surrounding areas. Eligible candidates must self-identify as one or several of the following:

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
Have language proficiency in English (equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6).
Experience:
IMPACT Initiative Associates require at least 6 months of fundamental knowledge and practical experience related to tasks and responsibilities similar to those outlined in the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
