The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion works with City departments, community partners, and Council committees to improve inclusion and accessibility in the city’s policies, programs, processes and spaces.
Reporting to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Lead, you will support the Office’s project work across the organization and in the community. Your work will include supports with project coordination, research and evaluation, and day‑to‑day operational needs for the team. You will also support City advisory committees and committee‑led projects with community partners. Depending on the project, you may work with external partners on community data collection or coordinate built environment and program accessibility assessments with lived experience consultants and support their needs.
You will have opportunities to contribute to a number of projects related to making our City more welcoming and inclusive. Committee and community‑partnered work is a significant part of this role, and some meetings may take place outside regular work hours.
This position is a strong fit for someone who wants to bring lived and/or work experience into municipal work and see clear outcomes of their efforts.
WORK FROM HOME
The successful candidate for this posting may be eligible for participation in a hybrid, work from home arrangement in alignment with the City’s Work from Home Policy. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.
POSITION FUNCTION
As an IMPACT Initiative Associate hired under the City of Victoria’s Inclusive Municipal Program for Advancing Careers and Training, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Associate position, you will assist with projects within a specific City department, contribute to the overall goals of the work unit, have job shadowing opportunities, and participate in educational experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must reside in Greater Victoria or surrounding areas. Eligible candidates must self-identify as one or several of the following:

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
Have language proficiency in English (equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6).
Experience:
IMPACT Initiative Associates require at least 6 months of fundamental knowledge and practical experience related to tasks and responsibilities similar to those outlined in the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
