POSITION FUNCTION

Assist in the installation and repair of the Water, Wastewater, and Storm systems.

 

KEY DUTIES

Assist with the installation and maintenance of various water distribution components, storm drains and sanitary sewers; move materials and equipment; Cut and break road surface; hand excavate when required; assist excavation equipment operator by hand locating underground utility lines; shore excavation sites. Operate compaction equipment for bedding pipe and road prep.

 

Operate various equipment such as jackhammer, compressor, and snap cutter; set up traffic control signs and cones as required; clean job site; clean and store materials and tools; operate a vehicle to assist as required. Measure, cut and file metal, plastic and vitrified pipe using equipment such as coring machine, cut-off saws and power tamper; hand mix cement mortar as required and assist with finishing various concrete surfaces; clean job site; clean and store materials and tools.

Perform related duties where qualified.

 

INDEPENDENCE

  • Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed while in progress.
  • Problems are referred to supervisor.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Understand and carry out job related instructions.
  • Use hand tools and power equipment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Work safely on job sites.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

  • High school graduation.
  • Water Distribution System Operator OIT Certificate.
  • Wastewater Collection Operator OIT Certificate.
  • Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

 

Experience:

  • 6 months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER:

  • May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
