POSITION FUNCTION

Provide customer service, cashier and clerical functions for City of Victoria operated facilities.

 

KEY DUTIES

  • Sell various items including but not limited to admissions, passes, tickets, merchandise, and garbage tags.
  • Operate POS and credit/debit card machine. Balance and verify daily cash float at beginning or end of shift, maintain coin float, order from bank, and verify daily cash and credit card reports.
  • Respond to enquiries from the public by providing information on facility operations, registered recreational programs, and drop-in schedules for Aquatics and Fitness.
  • Take messages and forward calls and feedback to program coordinators, provide office support to programmers, coordinators, and management.
  • Record information regarding lost or stolen items and complaints and review subsidy applications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Register customers for recreation programs, memberships, and locker rentals using the recreation registration database. Inform registrants of information such as course schedule changes, cancellations, and subsidy program application status; process refunds; record credits and cancellations.
  • Perform office functions such as photocopying, filing, sorting and distributing mail and restocking merchandise shelves. Prepare a variety of routine letters, reports, memos, forms and records, posters and small marketing materials as assigned.
  • Prepare monthly billings such as payment plan and locker rentals.
  • Respond to safety related situations in accordance with the Pool Safety Plan and established procedures.
  • Perform related duties where qualified.

 

INDEPENDENCE

  • Work is performed following established procedures. Independent decision making is required when working alone.
  • Problems are referred to supervisor.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

  • Prolonged standing while in work area. (frequent)
  • Stand with arms unsupported while keyboarding. (occasional)
  • Touch keying on calculator. (rare)

Mental Effort:

  • Deal with negative complaints, behaviours, and comments. (occasional)

Visual/Auditory Effort:

  • Normal.

Work Environment:

  • Recreation Facility.
  • Required to work irregular hours. (premium item)

 

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Understand and carry out job-related instructions.
  • Proficient use of a POS/Computerised Registration system & credit/debit card terminal.
  • Use of standard office equipment.
  • Maintain records and balance cash accurately.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with members of the public in an equitable, respectful, and tactful manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

  • Grade 10.
  • Required to obtain criminal record clearance.

Experience:

  • 1 year or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER:

  • May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
