Our ideal candidate has a passion for Transportation and a keen interest and aptitude for working with traffic and safety data and is excited to participate in developing new tools for assessing and improving safety in our roadways.

 

POSITION FUNCTION

As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

 

KEY DUTIES

Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.

 

Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

 

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

 

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.

 

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

Physical Effort:

Normal. Some heavy lifting required (up to 50 lbs.)

Mental Effort:

Normal.

Visual/Auditory Effort:

Normal.

Work Environment:

Office, Driving, Public Events

 

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Organize and prioritize work.

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Understand and carry out job related instructions.

Ability to learn quickly and independently.

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Working level knowledge of current City word processing, spreadsheet, and related specialty software including social media tools.

Maintain accurate records with attention to detail.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

 

Experience:

Not required.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
