POSITION FUNCTION
Perform custodial and janitorial functions at city owned buildings and facilities.
KEY DUTIES
Vacuum, shampoo carpets, wet and dry mop, strip, wax and polish floors, dust, clean, sanitize and disinfect surfaces. Dispose of refuse, recyclable and green waste materials; operate various custodial equipment such as auto scrubbers, burnisher, carpet cleaner steamer, wet vacuum, regular vacuums, defoamer, upholstery steamer, power washers, leaf blowers, sweeper push along, Clorox 360 and EMist and perform minor servicing as required.
Open and close various City owned buildings. Move furniture and equipment; set up meeting rooms as required and help with event set up; raise and lower flags as required; Clean sidewalks and outside stairs; remove snow and ice accumulations by shovelling or applying environmental ice melter.
Report required building repairs; fill out order forms to replenish inventory; stock custodian closets, washrooms with janitorial products, respond to service building requests as required.
Perform related duties where qualified.
INDEPENDENCE
Work is performed according to cleaning schedules or is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.
Problems are referred to supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Effort:
Lift and move heavy materials and equipment. (often)
Perform tasks requiring repetitious movements such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming. (frequent)
Mental Effort:

Visual/Auditory Effort:
Normal.
Work Environment:
Work in an environment where protective measures must be taken to avoid exposure to abrasive cleaning compounds, related chemicals and dust. (occasional)
KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Understand and carry out job related functions.
Knowledge of janitorial cleaning procedures.
Use power cleaning equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
Grade 10.
Building Service Worker course level 1,2 and preferred completion of level 3 (32 hours)
WHIMIS (2 hours)
Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver Licence
Required to obtain criminal record clearance to be offered scheduling in required facilities (Police Station)
Experience:
1 year of related janitorial experience in commercial buildings or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER:
This is a shift position; 7 days a week 24 hours a day
May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
