POSITION FUNCTION

Assist in operating a truck mounted high pressure jet rodder used to clean sanitary sewer and storm drain mains.

 

KEY DUTIES

Assist in operating a high pressure jet rodder with vacuum system to clean and maintain sanitary sewer and storm drain mains; assist in operating a hydro-static digger to excavate utilities; fill tanks from hydrant and record usage; set up traffic control signs and cones as required; test access port with gas detector and log results; power flush mains by inserting hoses through access ports; clean debris with suction system; clean access areas manually and with pressure hose.

 

Locate and direct vehicle placement over access ports; operate vehicle to re-locate as required; remove and replace access port covers; clean access ports, catch basins and underground vaults manually and with pressure hose as required; clean vehicle and attachments.

 

Perform related duties where qualified.

 

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

Lift and move heavy equipment and materials. (often)

Mental Effort:

Short periods of intense concentration while manoeuvring a large vehicle in moving traffic. (occasional)

Visual/Auditory Effort:

Normal.

 

Work Environment:

Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous)

Exposure to equipment noise. (frequent)

Work in confined spaces where preventive measures must be taken to avoid exposure to gas and fumes. (rare)

Exposure to sewer gas fumes. (often)

Work in close proximity to moving traffic. (continuous)

Contact with raw sewage. (premium item)

 

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understand and carry out job related instructions.

Operate a tandem rear axle truck equipped with a pressurized cleaning and vacuum system.

Use hand tools and power equipment.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Work safely on job sites.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

Grade 10.

Current and valid Class 3 B.C. Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement.

Experience:

1 year of related experience.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
