Senior Parks Maintenance Worker (3 Temporary – up to 6 months)
Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department
Interested in getting your foot in the door at City Parks? We are looking for 3 people to join our team until the end of the year, helping in all aspects of parks maintenance including tree watering, mowing and assisting the horticulture crew with maintenance tasks. Incumbents may need to work overnight shifts to assists with watering hanging baskets but initially will start on day shifts.
POSITION FUNCTION
Operate various industrial Parks equipment.
KEY DUTIES
Operate various industrial size trucks, aerial lift trucks and chippers, loaders, soil screeners and tractors with related attachments such as flail and reel and rotary mowers and front end bucket, top dresser, seeder, sweeper, vacuum, aerifier, spreader and sprayer; perform various tasks such as cutting fields, loading and unloading materials, grinding stumps, landscaping with york rake, turning compost, drilling post holes, roto-tilling and edging curbs and sidewalks. Operate leaf vacuum trucks and equipment.
Perform pre- and post-trip inspections by checking items such as fluid levels, belts, hoses and lights; perform minor maintenance such as cleaning and lubrication; report repairs needed and damage to supervisor and mechanic shop; check first aid and safety equipment; fill out daily equipment log, material slips and time sheet.
Provide instructions and information to other staff as required; respond to general enquiries from the public and other departments regarding park maintenance; keep records of daily activities, equipment and materials; make recommendations for maintenance, scheduling or route changes.
Perform related duties where qualified.
INDEPENDENCE
Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed while in progress.
Problems are referred to supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Effort:
Lift and move heavy equipment and materials. (occasional)

Short periods of intense concentration while operating equipment. (occasional)
Visual/Auditory Effort:
Normal.
Work Environment:
Exposure to dust, jarring and equipment noise. (occasional)
Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous)
Work in an environment where protective measures must be taken to avoid exposure to chemicals and fertilizers. (occasional)

Operate a variety of industrial-rated equipment and vehicles.
Repair and perform routine maintenance on equipment.

Work schedule: The following shifts are scheduled based on operational requirements - 10:45pm - 7:15am (night shift basket watering) and 7:00am - 3:30pm (day shift) various days, 40 hour work week
$32.43 per hour, Pay Grade 6
