Facilities Maintenance Worker – VCC (Regular Part Time)

POSITION FUNCTION
Perform building maintenance and repair functions at the Victoria Conference Centre
KEY DUTIES
Participate in preventive maintenance and service to plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Perform minor repairs and adjustments to building plumbing and electrical systems, such as: washroom fixtures, pumps, domestic water systems, fountains, lighting repairs (ballasts), replace switches and thermostats. Perform routine inspections on emergency generators; service and test life safety equipment such as emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.
All work is directed and assigned by Supervisor or Coordinator, including operating computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) opening and closing work orders and updating taking facility inventories; reviewing monthly maintenance work; monitoring and adjusting (as required) daily automated building control systems (DDC), performing routine diagnostics for DDC issues and reporting suggested solutions.
Perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fabric and related systems, such as: interior walls, ceilings, flooring, furniture, roofing, windows and overhead, interior and exterior doors. Operate equipment such as power tools, pressure washers and man lift; maintain tools and equipment as required.
Perform related duties where qualified.
INDEPENDENCE
Work is performed according to established maintenance procedures and schedules, requests for service or is assigned by supervisor. Work is reviewed through meetings with, or reports to supervisor. Issues such as major expenditure or deviations from established procedures practices are referred to supervisor.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Organize and prioritize work.
Understand and apply the techniques of building maintenance and repair and applicable safety standards and acts.
Basic level operation of a personal computer; working knowledge of building control systems (DDC), maintenance management systems (CMMS) and energy management systems.
Use hand tools and power equipment.
Read and understand building drawings and specifications.
Maintain accurate records.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.
Work safely on job sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
High school graduation.
Basic Building Operator's, or two Building System or Building Fabric courses such as Basic Refrigeration, Carpentry, Heating, or Plumbing. (60 hours)
Manlift Operator Certificate. (8 hours)
Required to obtain criminal record clearance.
Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
Experience:
2 years of related experience.
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER:
May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
Work schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, minimum 17.5 hours per week
$34.78 per hour, Pay Grade 8
