Road Marker II (2 Continuous)  

Engineering & Public Works Department

 

POSITION FUNCTION

Perform traffic marking functions, maintain signs and posts, and removes graffiti.

 

KEY DUTIES

Mark out surfaces and paint traffic markings including crosswalks, curbs, arrows and parking stalls using various equipment such as airless spray or compressed air machines, manual line painters and hot and cold applied materials; remove traffic markings using a line grinder; place and collect traffic control cones and signs in work area; set up traffic control as required.

 

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns and other equipment; perform pre-trip vehicle inspection; operate a vehicle and trailer to transport equipment and materials; requisition supplies and materials from City stores and suppliers as required; complete work orders.

 

Install and repair signs such as regulatory, street name, hazards and traffic; mix and place concrete for installation of signposts as required; operate equipment such as hammer drill and post straightener.

 

Replace overhead signs by use of aerial lift truck as assigned. Removing or painting over graffiti from City property.

 

Perform related duties where qualified.

 

INDEPENDENCE

Work is performed according to seasonal programs or assigned by supervisor.

Work is reviewed upon completion for adherence to standards.

Problems with placement of signs or markings are referred to supervisor.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

Lift and move heavy equipment and materials. (frequent)

Normal.

Work Environment:

Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous)

Work in an environment where protective measures must be taken to avoid exposure to fumes and equipment noise. (often)

Work irregular hours. (premium item)

 

 

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understand and discuss job related matters.

Operate various hand and power tools and painting equipment.

Operate aerial lift truck.

Maintain accurate records.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

Work and operate equipment safely.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

Grade 10.

Completion of Certification in Road Marking Application (24 hours)

IMSA Signs and Pavement Marking Technician level 1 OR ATSSA Pavement Marking Technician & HFST Installation & Inspection Certification (16 hours)

Valid Traffic Control Person Certification. (16 hours)

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

Experience:         

1 year of related experience in current road markings practices.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.

 

Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

$29.35 per hour, Pay Grade 5 (under review)
