Building Service Worker (2 Auxiliary)

Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department




Perform custodial and janitorial functions at city owned buildings and facilities.



Vacuum, mop, strip, wax and polish floors; shampoo carpets; dust surfaces; clean, disinfect and restock washrooms; clean jail cells and holding areas; dispose of refuse and recyclable materials; operate various janitorial equipment such as polishers and power washers and perform minor servicing as required.


Open and close various City owned buildings and facilities such as City Hall, Senior Citizens, Family Courts and Centennial Square washrooms; check emergency lighting and building security and activate alarms.


Move furniture and equipment; set up meeting rooms as required; raise and lower flags as required; wind and reset various City Hall clocks.


Clean sidewalks and outside stairs; remove snow and ice accumulations by shovelling or applying chemical ice melter.


Report required equipment and building repairs; complete forms to request materials.


Perform related duties where qualified.



Work is performed according to cleaning schedules or is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

Lift and move heavy materials and equipment. (often)

Perform tasks requiring repetitious movements such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming. (frequent)

Work Environment:

Work in an environment where protective measures must be taken to avoid exposure to harsh cleaning compounds, related chemicals and dust. (occasional)



Understand and carry out job related functions.

Knowledge of janitorial cleaning procedures.

Use power cleaning equipment.



Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

Grade 10.


6 months of related janitorial experience in commercial buildings.

This is a shift position.

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence. (preferred)

$27.69 per hour, Pay Grade 3
