    Painter (2 Temporary – up to 11 months)

    Engineering and Public Works Department

     

    An exciting opportunity exists for a TQ Painter to join an experienced and highly skilled team. In addition to being a keen service provider and relationship builder, the ideal candidate is well-organized, forward thinking, and able to work proactively to deliver high quality services.

     

    POSITION FUNCTION

    Prepare various surfaces and apply appropriate coating materials.

     

    KEY DUTIES

    Prepare wood, metal and drywall surfaces for painting using various methods such as sanding, scrapping, patching, pressure washing, sandblasting and acid etching.

     

    Apply coating materials including various types of paints, stains, varnish and wall coverings matching existing areas and coatings as required; select method of application in accordance with surroundings and needs; perform inspections to diagnose coating failures on various surfaces.

     

    Operate and maintain various hand tools and power equipment such as airless or pressure-feed spray systems, scaffolds, swing stage and needle gun; operate power lifts, ladder trucks and vehicles as required.

     

    Perform related duties where qualified.

     

    INDEPENDENCE

    Work is assigned by supervisor through work order or verbal instruction and reviewed upon completion.

    Issues such as work schedule or colour selection are referred to supervisor.

     

     

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Physical Effort:

    Work from ladders. (often)

    Work in awkward positions with arms unsupported. (frequent)

    Lift and move heavy equipment and materials. (often)

    Mental Effort:

    Normal.

    Visual/Auditory Effort:

    Short periods of visual concentration while detail painting. (occasional)

    Work Environment:

    Work in an environment where protective measures must be taken to avoid exposure to paint fumes, power washing and chipping. (often)

     

     

    KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Understand and apply principles of painting trade.

    Operate and maintain painting and preparation equipment.

    Understand and discuss job related matters.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

    High school graduation.

    Current and valid B.C. Certificate of Trades Qualification in painting. (3 years)

    Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

    Experience:

    1 year of related experience.

    or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    OTHER:

    May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.

     

    Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

    Target start date: February 2019

    $32.48 per hour, Pay Grade 9
