Senior Leadhand – Milling (Continuous)
Engineering and Public Works Department
Coordinate and participate in the work of a crew carrying out road milling and maintenance.
Coordinate, assign, review and participate in the work of approximately 3 staff involved in the construction, maintenance and milling of roads; ensure schedules, procedures and established performance and safety standards are met; provide input to performance appraisals; provide employee training; complete time sheets.
Read and interpret sketches, plans and grade sheets; measure and mark out underground utilities prior to excavation; make recommendations regarding on-site changes to engineering designs; control grades for road maintenance and constructions; operate various power equipment such as jackhammers and tampers, vibratory rollers, spray kettles and cut-off saws.
Operate a vehicle and trailer for transport of milling machine, heavy equipment and materials; direct the operation of various construction and excavation equipment.
Determine materials, staff resources and equipment required daily; order materials and equipment by contacting Public Works dispatcher; complete equipment rental and material slips; review job matters and schedules with outside agencies and City departments.
Perform related duties where qualified.
Work is assigned on a project basis and reviewed while in progress.
Issues such as changes to project design and scheduling are referred to supervisor and technicians with recommendations.
Lift, move and shovel heavy materials. (often)

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Organize and prioritize the work of a unit.
Understand and apply all aspects of road construction and repair.
Use hand tools and power equipment.
Read and understand engineering drawings and grade sheets.
Complete forms accurately.
Communicate effectively verbally.
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
High school graduation.
Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence with overweight trailer endorsement.
4 years of related experience including supervisory experience.
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
$35.13 per hour, Pay Grade 11
