Business Ambassador – Fort Street
Engineering and Public Works Department
Provide daily, on-site communication to stakeholders regarding Fort Street bike lane construction. Acts as the primary liaison for the public and is responsible for sharing information and engaging business owners, employees, commuters and residents during construction to support successful completion of the project.
Act as a liaison between the business community and City staff during construction period. Build relationships with and distribute information to directly affected stakeholders about construction progress, scheduling information, major activities and milestones. Provide ongoing feedback to City staff on the stakeholder construction experience and proposed communication or process improvements.
Respond to business stakeholder needs during construction and make recommendations to City Staff to mitigate related impacts or resolve problems. Attend bi-weekly construction meetings to understand schedule, activities and/or issues associated with the project. Answer general emails and/or phone inquiries from businesses about the project; referring more complex issues to other staff or directing to appropriate office
Support promotional efforts led by the City in partnership with individual businesses, the Downtown Victoria Business Association, Chamber of Commerce or business associations during construction period. Develop and organize business exchange mixers or celebratory events. Work with City’s citizen engagement staff to create promotional material and provide website updates.
Perform related duties where qualified.
Work is generated by requests for service or is assigned by supervisor. Work is reviewed through reports and discussions with supervisor.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Organize and prioritize work.
Understand and apply the techniques of quality customer service, within a business support context.
Maintain current knowledge of City services and facilities, Bicycle Network implementation strategy, and underlying multi-modal objectives.
Sound judgment and decision making skills.
Working level operation of current City of Victoria word processing, spreadsheet database, and related speciality software.
Maintain accurate records and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Represent the City to the public and outside agencies as it relates to Fort Street construction.
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
High School graduation
Accredited courses in Customer Service, Conflict Resolution, and Communication. (6 months)
4 years of related experience
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May be required to substitute in a more senior position.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
$32.29 per hour, Pay Grade 10 (2016 rate)
